What is Screen Printing?

Screen printing is a high-quality, durable method of printing designs onto garments, known for its vibrant finish and being the longest-lasting form of apparel decoration. It involves pushing ink through a mesh screen onto the fabric, with a separate screen created for each colour in the design. Because of this, screen printing is charged based on the number of colours used. The best part is the print area is A3 sized meaning you can add as many elements as you want within that colour screen (e.g. putting just the business name "Uniform Me" in white on the chest would cost the same as printing it full length across the chest.

Minimum orders based on colours: 10 garments for 1-colour prints, 20 for 2 colours, 30 for 3 colours, and 50 for designs with 4 or more colours. Screen Printing is best value for money at low-medium colours with high quantity of garments being printed.

What is Embroidery?

Embroidery is a premium and professional way to brand your business, offering a clean and long-lasting finish that adds a polished touch to your uniforms. It’s best suited for chest logos on a wide range of garments including polos, 1/4 zips, and softshell jackets. While it can be used on many fabrics, it's not ideal for thin t-shirt materials and isn’t recommended for large back designs—screen printing is a better option in those cases.

Embroidery can accommodate up to 15 colours, though additional setup fees apply when using more than 4.

The minimum order is 8 items, with the flexibility to mix and match garments (e.g. 6 polos and 2 jackets), as long as the embroidery colours remain the same. Different rules apply to headwear (beanies, caps etc..) as we have to change the hoops on the machine.

For hats, caps, and widebrims, the minimum is also 8 units with consistent embroidery colours. For beanies the minimum is also 8. Best value is achieved when ordering 20 or more of the same embroidery.

What is Digital Printing?

Digital printing—also known as Direct to Film (DTF) or Direct to Garment (DTG)—is a modern method of printing that allows for unlimited colours, photo-realistic detail, and very low minimum order quantities, making it a great option for short runs or one-off designs. However, while it offers flexibility and vibrant results, it does not have the same durability as screen printing or embroidery and tends to fade, crack, or peel more quickly after washing.

For this reason, it’s not recommended for uniforms or workwear. Instead, digital printing is ideal for casual, short-term use such as pub crawls, bucks parties, single-day events, birthdays, and novelty merchandise. While it's often used for merch, screen printing remains the better long-term choice—ensuring your design stays intact, helps build brand awareness, and encourages future sales, as no one wants to repurchase merch that wears out too quickly.

"What option is best" - change to "Embroidery v Screen Printing v Digitial Printing"

Embroidery

  • Professional & long-lasting branding option
  • Ideal for chest logos on polos, jackets, 1/4 zips
  • Not ideal for thin t-shirts or large back designs
  • Up to 15 colours (extra fees apply for more than 4)
  • Minimum order: 8 items (can mix garments, but same thread colours)
  • Beanies, hats & caps: min. 8 units with same colours
  • Best value at 20+ units of same embroidery

Screen Printing

  • Longest-lasting print method—great for uniforms
  • Bold, vibrant designs with high durability
  • Charged per number of colours used
  • Ideal for large prints, event merch, and uniforms
  • Minimums based on colour count:

1 colour = 10 items
2 colours = 20 items
3 colours = 30 items
4+ colours = 50 items

Digital Printing (DTF/DTG)

  • Unlimited colours and detailed artwork
  • Very low minimums – perfect for small runs
  • Not durable – fades/cracks after repeated washing
  • Not recommended for uniforms
  • Best for short-term use: events, bucks parties, pub crawls, birthdays
  • OK for merchandise, but screen printing is better for lasting impact and repeat sales

What option is most durable?

Embroidery and Screen Printing are the most durable options for decorating garments, but the best choice depends on the type of fabric and the size of your logo. Embroidery offers a professional, raised finish that looks great on polos, softshell jackets, and polyester garments, but it’s not ideal for thin t-shirts or large back designs.

Screen printing is highly versatile and works well on most fabrics, delivering vibrant, long-lasting results for both small and large prints—though it isn’t suitable for waterproof jackets or vests. Digital printing (DTF/DTG) allows for unlimited colours and low minimums, but is prone to washing off, cracking and peeling and best suited for one-off or short-term use.
